Hand-painted Shipwreck Porcelain Plate
$188.00
This porcelain plate was part of a large cache of Chinese porcelain retrieved from the Tek Sing shipwreck. I love its hand-painted, rudimentary swirling patterns.
The Tek Sing, also known as the Titanic of the East, was one of the last great Chinese junks. It sunk in 1822 near Indonesia, taking more than 1500 lives.
The Tek Sing wreck was salvaged in 1999; its cargo was auctioned in 2001 for more than US$30 million.
