Now our racks are fruiting dresses and sprouting skirts. We don’t even know what will happen when/if we get some men’s vintage clothing into the store. We have to hold an urgent shareholders’ meeting dealing with critical questions like will our four racks be sufficient, how many girls who wear vintage will want to wear vintage eyewear and vintage Eric Javits hats and will we become Stevie Old Clothes Store and… will we have to eat vintage for dinner???

March and April are mad vintage months, and I think May days too are going to be, since more folks have come to know us. My dream is to run a funny little vintage-curio store, filled with freedom, desire and the heartbeat when running on empty. Back to reality (in actual fact we’re playing so much old music it feels like there are two fifty-five year old aunties running Stevie General Store).

Can you believe Singapore once had such a great band? Matthew Tan was the only country singer from Singapore to have recorded in Nashville, Tennessee. No wonder he was a lonely cowboy.

Friends, I thought I lost my mind yesterday, when I realised dammit I only steamed 20 pieces. You mean I slogged all day for not even 50 pieces?

Hehehe. Today I will flex my biceps. We have new pieces in the store… make one yours!

… but how then do you explain why shops exist round the year?

We obsess over the vintage we sell and try to keep a running ‘documentary’ of all pieces but sometime we miss and they go off with someone – no photographs and soon they’re forgotten… Today I sold a beautiful burgundy cheongsam lace dress and a hard-to-come-by, caricature-illustrated 70s dress to a lady named Jemma who will wear the dresses when she goes on The Orient Express.
